LA’s Emerging Little Italy District Breaking Ground on Waterfront Piazza

Years in the making, the Piazza project will serve as a community hub for San Pedro, LA's up-and-coming Little Italy neighborhood.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood after a much-anticipated Piazza project got the green light to break ground in San Pedro, L.A.’s coastal Little Italy neighborhood, which is brimming with new business.

Dubbed “Piazza Miramare,” the development will feature a new stage, trellis structures, terrace seating and plenty of shade for waterfront tourists and revelers.

The piazza, and its’ events, will be managed  by the Little Italy of Los Angeles Association (LILAA).

“This programming will augment the cultural experiences for Angelenos, and attract people from all over the region, catalyzing the local economy,” according to L.A. Councilman Joe Buscaino, who was a pivotal driver of the development. “LILAA’s Board of Directors, comprised of respected leaders of Los Angeles’ Italian American community, has extensive experience on major projects and fundraising. The Board has already received substantial funding commitments from a multitude of sources. Moreover, dozens of people have contributed hundreds of volunteer hours to the effort.”

The project’s backers expect more than 100,000 people to visit the piazza and surrounding areas in the first year alone.

The new community hub will be located on the waterfront at 6th Street and Harbor Boulevard.
