Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs Wins Gold in 100 Meters in Massive Upset

This is one for the history books.

Lamont Marcell Jacobs — an unknown American-born, Italian runner — stunned the world Sunday night in Tokyo when he won gold in the men’s Olympic 100-meter race.

He clocked in at a breakneck 9.8 seconds, and it’s the first time ever that Italy claimed gold in the marquee sprint event.

Jacobs blew past America’s Fred Kerley and Canada’s Andre DeGrasse to take the spot held for the past 13 years by the now-retired Usain Bolt.
