Italian Food Overwhelmingly Preferred by Just About Everyone, Study Finds

25,000 people across 24 nations were surveyed, and 84% of them pointed to Italian food as their favorite.

The people have spoken.

And according to SheKnows, the consensus is clear:

YouGov surveyed more than 25,000 people in 24 markets across the globe. The result of that study showed that American food ranked seventh out of 34 cuisines; American food received an average popularity score of 68 percent worldwide. Italian cuisine, however, beat ‘em all, receiving an average popularity score of 84 percent across 24 nations that were studied.”

The biggest fans of Italian food are Italians themselves, with 99% enjoying their national cuisine. Other big fans include Spaniards (94% of those who have tried it say they like it) and the French (92%), while the least impressed by Italian food are the Chinese (59%), according to YouGov.

With aged meats and cheeses, from-scratch sauces, pastas and pizzas, Mediterranean dishes, and Sicilian desserts, it’s not hard to see why Italian food — and the country’s culinary traditions — have sparked food trends that span the globe.
