Ex-Death Row Inmate Gets $1 million After Wrongful Murder Conviction in Ohio

On Monday in Ohio a state board approved a $1 million payment to ex-Death Row inmate Joe D’Ambrosio, who was wrongfully imprisoned for more than 20 years because of prosecutorial misconduct, according to Cleveland.com.

The decision by the Ohio Controlling Board was unanimous, and it ends a multi-year effort to win compensation for his decades-long incarceration.

D’Ambrosio, who lived in a quiet Cleveland, Ohio suburb, was sentenced to death in 1989 for the killing of Anthony Klann.

In 2010, a judge found that the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office shelved 10 pieces of evidence that may have led to his exoneration.

D’Ambrosio’s attorney called the ruling “a major victory.”
