We are still in no position to travel, but our hearts long for a vacation to the Amalfi Coast.

Let’s take a trip there, through the gorgeous seaside cities, without ever leaving the comfort of our couches, in hopes that one day soon we can safely travel there again.

Ravello

This mostly resort town is home to some beautiful cliffside gardens. Pay a visit to Villa Rufolo to see them and take in the 13th century architecture and breathtaking views it has to offer. Though this town may be lesser known than some of the others on this list, it’s well worth the stop. From the Cathedral of Ravello to the Sanctuary of Sts. Cosmas and Damian, you’ll experience what many artists, musicians and writers such as Truman Capote, Virginia Woolf and Leonard Bernstein experienced when passing through this destination.

Amalfi

Get a closer look at the clear, blue waters of the coast by traveling to Amalfi, set below the steep cliffs. Take in the history that was once the maritime republic from the 9th to the 11th centuries and look out for the Byzantine facade of the Arab-Norman Sant’Andrea cathedral in the center of town. Pop in a shop or two to pick up two Amalfi must-haves: a bottle of fresh limoncello and bambagina, a type of thick, handmade paper used for fancy letters or invitations. 

Positano

This cliffside village is one of the Southern Italian region’s most popular, and for good reason. Stroll through these narrow streets, weaving in and out of cafes and little storefronts before heading down to the pebble beaches to enjoy a cool dip in the water. 

Sorrento

Further out on the peninsula is this town on the Bay of Naples. Stand up on the cliffs and below you can watch as the busy marina is home to ships for a moment before they head back out to sea. Stop for a snack in the Piazza Tasso at one of the many cafes there before wandering through the narrow alleys that lead to the 14th century church Chiesa di San Francesco.

Capri

You may have to head back up to Naples to make it to this special little place, but the extra travel time is worth it. The island of Capri has a rugged landscape that is unmatched, and its high-end shopping and luxurious hotels make it a comfortable stay. While you’re there, make sure to pick up some handmade leather sandals and stop off at the Blue Grotto, a deep cave where the sea glows blue from sunlight passing through. Get a taste of history by roaming Villa Jovis, the remains of a Roman palace and keep an eye out for yachts passing by in the sea below.
